Copperline

Four friends from a wire-plant town. The plant that drew the copper line employed all of their fathers and, briefly, three of them. When it closed, the VFW hall kept its Saturday dances going out of stubbornness, and the plant's old softball-team band — these four — kept playing them. They took the name off the product that built the town. Their music exists so the town still has a Saturday night: heartland rock as a public utility, choruses a whole hall can hold up together.
